This thread will be a bit of a chance for everyone to say "shwmae" or Hello, and introduce themselves. I'll go first to get the ball rolling. My name is Nicky, I run this site I also run the YouTube channel "Learn Welsh with Nicky"I live in Aberystwyth, but I come from Edmondstown in the Rhondda Valleys. I work in IT and have done for about 15 years or so. I like music, books, coffee, pizza, docusoaps (TV shows where you watch people do their jobs - think Traffic Cops, Airline, Driving School) and I also like a bit of running. Shwmae!

Hi
I’m vicky. I was born in Cardigan/ Aberteifi to English parents. For a brief time I was functually bilingual - albeit at a specific age. When I was 6 my dads job took us to an raf camp in Germany and I began loosing my Welsh , having no opportunity to practice.
Now I am a 40 something living in England. But 10 years ago we (Scottish husband and I) went on holiday to the Dolgellau/ Machynlleth area and fell in love with the place. We’d love to move there now but the whole need to earn a living thing is in the way. However I am determined we will at least retire there. I am learning n Welsh with ssiw.
This site looks like being another good resource!

Shwmae! David dw i. I am a late forties IT network engineer from America. Three years ago we met a lovely couple from Wales who were visiting the US. We enjoyed talking with them and have kept up communication over the years. Finally our dream of visiting Wales is coming true. I did not know anything about the Welsh language until meeting them. Since January I have determined to learn as much as I could so that I could understand somewhat but also to show respect to my friends and their friends. I have never learned a language before but I find it exciting. I am hoping my Welsh DNA brings it out. I have only gotten to the point of being able to write a few sentences back and forth. I hope I don’t freeze when I actually am spoken to. Thank you, Nicky, for creating this site as a way to learn and practice.

Check out the "How to.." section on the main site, and another resource you might find useful will be "Welsh Speaking Practice" on the Resources page Thanks for your kind comments!

Shwmae, John Ydw i. I live in Skewen, SW Wales, and come from Newcastle, NE England. I like to think that I'm the only Geordie Welsh speaker, but I'm probably wrong.
Geordie dad joke: Is that a cake, or am I wrang? (a meringue)
Anyway, back to y Gymraeg. Dwi'n trio defnyddio fy Ngymraeg bob dydd.
Dwi'n disgwyl ymlaen I siarad 'da Chi.
John.

Hiya pawb
I’m Kimberley. I’m originally from Merthyr Tydfil and also currently live there. I work at Cardiff University where I’m a psychiatrist doing research in genetics. I’m about to go back to work from maternity leave.
I’ve been learning Welsh off and on for around 2 years (since Euro 2016 actually!). Many moons ago I also did GCSE Welsh.
I enjoy playing the piano, watching stand up comedy and all things Welsh. I hope to get some more chances to practice my Welsh.
Shwmae!

S'mae. Alona dw i. Dw i'n byw yn Rwsia, yn y dref St-Petersburg. Dw i'n dysgu Cymraeg tua hanner blwyddyn, dim ond ar lein. Dw i'n gweithio fel athrawes a fel cyfrifyddes. Dw i'n hoffi mynd am dro gyda fy merch, cadw'n heini, darllen llyfrau ac gwrando ar gerddoriaeth. Hoffwn i ddefnyddio Cymraeg fwy. Ond fy Nghymraeg yn weal o hyd. Ga i siarad efo chi i gyd yma?
